Design Challenge:

- Maximize the square footage allowable based on lot size

- Provide indoor parking for 9 cars

- Have sweeping views of the lakefront from a majority of the house

- Build to the maximum allowable height

- Keep within the limits of a tasteful and timeless style

Solution:

- Cantilever portions of the house to maintain zoning requirements

- Provide a column free basement by using girder trusses to provide parking below

- Raise house, remove obstructions, and maximize window size along the rear

- Combine a tapered and flat roof to remain within height restrictions

- Design the house in a Queen Ann style with hardwood floors and high ceilings.
